Clay Nicks has announced he will be leaving his position as track and cross country coach at Lipscomb University to accept a full-time teaching position.
Nicks, who has been a head coach at Lipscomb for five years, has accepted a position as assistant professor of exercise science at Columbus State University in Columbus, Ga.
"I am grateful to have been able to work with such great student-athletes over the past few years," said Nicks who coached both the men's and women's teams. "I am proud of their accomplishments both inside and outside of athletics and wish them nothing but the best in the future."
Nicks, a Nashville native, will graduate this August with a Doctorate in Human Performance from Middle Tennessee State University.
"Coach Nicks has been a tremendous asset to the Lipscomb University cross country and track and field programs," said Dr. Steve Potts, director of athletics for Lipscomb. "While we are disappointed for him to leave Lipscomb, we also understand and support his interest in classroom teaching and research. All of us here wish him well in his new role at Columbus State."
