Ruth Mick and Andrew Harris have been selected as the 2006 recipients of the James R. Byers Award, the highest honor given to athletics at Lipscomb University.
Mick is a cross country and track performer in the steeplechase, 1500 meters and 800 meters for the Lady Bisons. Harris is a member of the Bisons tennis team.
The award is given annually to the top senior female and male athletes who display outstanding Christian leadership and show academic and athletic excellence.
"Ruth Mick and Andrew Harris represent the best that Lipscomb student-athletes have to offer," said Dr. Steve Potts, Lipscomb athletics director. "The Christian content of their character as well as their commitment to academics and athletics make them worthy recipients of the Byers Award."
Mick, from Zelienople, Pa., has been a member of the Atlantic Sun Academic Team every season at Lipscomb. She is majoring in environmental science and plans to continue her studies in the area of soil science after graduation.
Harris, from Atlanta, Ga., has also been selected each year as a member of the Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team. Harris was also a 2005 All-Atlantic Sun Conference second team selection for tennis where he plays the No. 1 position.
Harris is majoring in speech communications.
The awards were announced Friday morning during a brunch at Allen Arena honoring all of the athletes who have earned Atlantic Sun All-Academic honors.
Dr.Jeff Mankin, from the College of Business, spoke to the group prior to the awards ceremony.
