Friday, September 05, 2008The Lipscomb Bisons finished fourth and the Lady Bisons were eighth in the Belmont-Vanderbilt Cross Country Opener on a rainy Friday night at Percy Warner Park.
Ryan Chastain finished fourth for the Bisons in a field of 88 runners covering the 5-kilometer course in a time of 15:28.69.
Also finishing in the top 25 for the Bisons were Nathan Brame in 14th place with a time of 15:55.54; Benton Reed in 19th with a time of 16:03.40 and Ben Fennell in 25th with a time of 16:10.39.
The men's division was won by Belmont followed by Middle Tennessee State in second and Vanderbilt in third.
In the women's competition the Lady Bisons competed without Carolyn Latham who missed the race due to sickness.
The top finisher for the Lady Bisons was Ashley Lehman. She ran the 4-kilometer course in a time of 15:28.91 finishing 25th in a field of 103 runners.
Vanderbilt's team was first in the women's race followed by Tennessee in second.
The Bisons were fifth in this week's poll of the A-Sun coaches and the Lady Bisons were sixth.
