Wednesday, August 18, 2010The 2010 Lipscomb Lady Bisons cross country team has made history in the NCAA era and they haven’t even run a race this fall.
In the preseason poll of Atlantic Sun coaches the Lady Bisons were ranked fifth and for the first time the team received two first place votes.
“The women's ranking is a bit surprising to me,” coach Bill Taylor said. “I ranked us sixth and I certainly didn't expect us to get any first place votes.
“Jacksonville is the defending conference champion with almost everyone back. They should be first. Belmont looks really strong. North Florida has a great young team. Kennesaw is always good. Upstate has a team of Kenyans and they are good.”
However, Taylor returns all five of his runners from last year’s conference meet and he expected improvement all-around.
“We have a lot more talent and depth than ever before and we are certainly headed in the right direction,” Taylor said. “But like the men, until we prove we are better than our conference finish, we aren't.
“This will be an incredible program. I hope the two that voted us first are right this year, and it's kind of fun to be ranked fifth with two first place votes. But right now we are just a young team that is working to get better, whatever that means.”
