MACON, Ga. – In the first Atlantic Sun Cross Country Poll of the season, the Lipscomb women’s squad was a unanimous first place choice by the league’s coaches. The men’s team was voted second, just nine points out of first place.
The Lady Bisons earned the top spot after a strong showing two weeks ago at the Belmont Opener. Freshman Sally Larson took home the A-Sun Runner of the Week honors after finishing second and as the top collegiate runner in 17:54.10.
The Lady Bisons are currently ranked seventh in the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association South Region Poll, the highest of the A-Sun schools. North Florida is ranked second in the A-Sun poll and 12th in the South Region.
The Bisons cross country squad ranks second behind ETSU and received four first place votes. The Purple and Gold were picked third in the preseason poll.
The Lipscomb men’s squad also had a strong showing at the Belmont Opener, winning both of its duals against Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee State.
Freshmen Juan Gonzalez and Christian Freeman led the Bisons with seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively. Sophomore Grant Stromberg finished 10th.
Both squads return to action at the Vanderbilt Invite on Saturday at Percy Warner Park. The men’s race is at 9 a.m. with the women following at 10 a.m.
