NASHVILLE – Barbara Lee Ball has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women's Track & Field/Cross Country, announced Friday on the College Sports Information Directors of America's (CoSIDA) website.
The sophomore, who has excelled in both cross country and track and field during the 2014-15 season, claimed a spot on the District 3 All-Academic Team. The pre-nursing major has a 4.0 GPA.
"Barbara Lee is another example of the excellence our student-athletes strive for athletically and academically,” Lipscomb Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Bill Taylor said. “It doesn't stop there either. They are working to become better people who are better prepared to go out into the world and make an impact. They strive for success in every aspect, including social, leadership, spiritual and more.”
Ball began the season by helping Lipscomb win the 2014 A-Sun Women’s Cross Country Championship. She finished ninth on the 5k course with a time of 17:54.15. The mark earned her Second Team All-Conference. She was also named the A-Sun Runner of the Week once during the season.
At the A-Sun Indoor Track and Field Championship, Ball took fourth in both the 3000m and the 5000m with times 10:01.07 and 17:03.69 respectively. She also earned an A-Sun Indoor Track Athlete of the Week award.
She earned Academic All-Conference for both cross country and indoor track and field.
Ball capped off her season at the A-Sun Outdoor Track and Field Championship, finishing third in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 35:28.60.
“Barbara Lee is on a team with an average GPA of over 3.7,” Taylor said. “We have a ton of 4.0 students and almost everyone on the team is above a 3.0. That's a big accomplishment as a program, and for Barbara to be recognized from our highly academic culture is a gigantic honor for her. She has the absolute highest expectations for herself in every way."
