MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb cross country freshman Paige Stoner added Atlantic Sun Conference Runner of the Week honors to her already impressive first year of competition, announced Wednesday by the office.
"Paige is a super hard worker and a super tough competitor,” said Bill Taylor, Lipscomb director of cross country. “I really couldn't ask for more from an athlete than she is doing.
“She is highly competitive, a great team player, and she listens to the coaching. Most of all, she is an incredibly tough runner.”
The Pottsville, Pennsylvania native led the women’s cross country squad to a fourth place finish out of 17 Division I teams at the Vanderbilt Commodore Classic.
"She is going to have an amazing career here, and she has certainly opened her collegiate career very impressively,” Taylor said. “I'm not surprised. We knew she was going to be good when we recruited her.”
Finishing 17th overall, her time of 17:33.39 ranks second all time for Lipscomb at the team’s home course, Vaughn’s Gap. It is also the third best time in Lipscomb women’s cross country history.
"Paige is going to run much faster, and I think she is going to benefit even more when we add Madi Talbert, Sally Larson, and Dani Walker into the next race,” Taylor said. “They will help all help each other go even faster."
