LakePoint, Ga. – With both squads coming off of another successful campaign, the Lipscomb men’s and women’s cross country teams were voted into the top spot of the ASUN Preseason Coaches Poll.
The women’s squad, which set a conference record last season by winning their sixth-consecutive ASUN title, earned seven of the eight first-place votes and 63 total points, placing them 10 points ahead of second-place Jacksonville.
At the 2016 ASUN Championships, Lipscomb defeated the Dolphins by 19 points to take the conference crown. North Florida received the other first-place vote.
On the men’s side, the Purple and Gold collected six of the eight first-place votes and 62 total points. North Florida again received the other first-place votes, but this time with a second-place finish and 58 total points.
Lipscomb senior Juan Gonzalez was voted the Men’s Preseason Runner of the Year by the fans. The California native received 92 votes.
The two squads return 11 combined All-Conference runners and are looking to advance to the NCAA South Region Championships for the third year in a row.
The Bisons are set to begin the season on Sept. 2 at the Belmont Opener.
