Brenner takes home ASUN Cross Country Runner of the Week

LakePoint, Ga. – After taking first place in the Belmont Opener over the weekend, Lipscomb sophomore Courtney Brenner has been named the ASUN Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the league offices on Wednesday.

Brenner won the Belmont Opener at Vaughn’s Creek, Lipscomb’s home course, in the first race of the Bisons season.

She finished with a time of 17:40.6, 10 seconds of ahead of second place, for her first career title.

The California native helped the Bisons, ranked 9th in the South Region, to a second-place finish against two other regionally-ranked teams: 3rd-ranked Vanderbilt and 15th-ranked Belmont.

This is the second time Brenner has won an ASUN weekly award, as she was named the ASUN Women’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week last spring for her performance at the Bison Outdoor Classic in Pennsylvania.

Brenner and the rest of the Bisons will be back in action on Friday at the ASUN Preview at Kennesaw State.
