NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb cross country squad split up for a pair of races on Saturday as the Bisons took on the Greater Louisville Classic and the JSU Foothills Invite.

In Louisville, the men finished 12th out of 30 programs, while the women placed 22nd out of 33. Among the teams the men placed above were Vanderbilt, Miami (FL), and host Louisville, and the women bested Illinois, Middle Tennessee, and Central Michigan among others.

Senior Jacob Poyner led the way for the men, posting a time of 24:31.1 as he finished 49th in a field of 326 racers.

Fellow senior Juan Gonzalez was next for the Bisons, placing 80th with a time of 24:50.6. Freshman Silas Griffith also finished in the top-100 at 95th with a 24:59.2 mark. 

Making up the rest of Lipscomb’s top five group were: sophomores Chase Hampton (25:14.7) in 137th and William Kachman (25:19.1) in 144th

Sophomores Zach Israel (25:24.0), John Green (25:30.4), and Kyle Johnson (25:31.5) placed 153rd, 164th, and 167th, respectively. 

On the women’s side, senior Kacey Kemper took Lipscomb’s top spot, placing 89th in a field of 378 runners with a time of 17:47.0.

Closing out the women’s top five spots were: freshmen Lauren Flynt (17:55.9) in 111th and Jacie Legois (18:21.5) in 175th, senior Katie Sperry (18:22.3) in 176th, and junior Bridgette Doucet (18:34.0) at 205th.

In Jacksonville, the women beat out eight other squads for first with 56 total points, while the men finished third out of six teams with 87 points.

Sophomore Kailey Schuyler earned the top spot for the women, placing fifth out of 251 runners with a time of 18:35.4.

Senior Kinzie Icayan (18:57.9) and freshman Grace Lahey (19:01.8) placed 13th and 15th, respectively, while fellow freshman Chandler Bergeron (19:24.6) and Haley Kling (19:34.3) closed out the Bisons top group in 28th and 35th.

Freshman Patrick Smith grabbed the men’s top position, finishing 21st overall with a time of 26:27.5.

Sophomore Brody Beiler (26:34.0) and junior Robert Rupp (26:37.9) finished back-to-back in 24th and 25th, while freshman Jared Rodriguez grabbed 36th place with a 27:02.0 time.

The Bisons will hit the ground running again on Oct. 14 as they split again for the Princeton Invite and the UTC Frontrunner Invite.
