Brenner wins ASUN title as women's XC takes crown, men finish third

NEW YORK CITY – For the seventh time in the last eight seasons, the Lipscomb women’s cross country team is taking home the ASUN Championship.

The Lady Bisons turned in a dominant performance Friday morning at Van Cortlandt Park inNew York City to place first with 29 points, 21 points ahead of second-place Liberty.

Junior Courtney Brenner also earned the individual women’s ASUN title, finishing the 5K in 17:42.7 for her second career All-Conference spot.

Brenner missed last season’s ASUN title, but won Freshman of the Year in 2016.

Joining Brenner on the All-Conference First-Team were senior Brooke Kingma and sophomore Kayla Rudie.

Kingma placed fourth in 18:04.4, while Rudie finished seventh in 18:32.9.

Close behind were All-Conference Second-Team members sophomores Lauren Flynt and Grace Lahey.

Flynt and Lahey finished eighth and ninth with times of 18:35.7 and 18:37.9, respectively.

Rounding out Lipscomb’s crew were sophomores Haley Kling (19:09.6) and Lindsey Marriott (19:11.5) in 21st and 22nd, redshirt senior Julia Fritz (19:23.7) in 25th, and senior Hannah Owens (19:48.2) in 35th.

Lipscomb Director of Cross Country Bill Taylor was named the ASUN Coach of the Year on the women’s side for the seventh time.

The men finished in a strong third place with 75 points, behind the title-winning North Florida and Liberty.

Sophomore Silas Griffith paced the Bisons, notching a First-Team All-Conference spot as he placed seventh in the 8K in 25:32.1.

Junior Zach Israel earned a spot on the All-Conference Second-Team, placing 12th in 25:54.2.

Junior Owen Glogovsky (25:58.7), senior Kyle Johnson (26:00.3), and juniors William Kachman (26:03.3), Jonathan Schwind (26:13.3), and John Green (26:19.5), finished in a cluster at 17th, 19th, 20th, 21st, and 24th, respectively.

Closing out Lipscomb’s squad were sophomore Patrick Smith (26:41.5) and senior Andrew Ayers (27:11.5) in 33rd and 38th.

Next up for Lipscomb will be the NCAA South Region Championships, which take place on Nov. 9 in Tallahassee, Florida.
