Cross country sweeps ASUN titles, Leber takes individual crown

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lipscomb cross country squads dominated the ASUN Championships on Saturday morning as the Bisons came away with both the men’s and women’s conference titles and redshirt-sophomore Brent Leber won the men’s individual championship.

The Lady Bisons won their second consecutive title and the eighth in the last nine seasons. The eight championships are the most in ASUN history for a single program.

The Bisons earned their fifth title, and the first since 2017. Leber is the second Lipscomb men’s runner to win the individual ASUN championship.

Lipscomb Director of Cross Country Nick Polk was also named the ASUN Coach of the Year for both the men’s and women’s sides, while Ronald Kigen was named the Men’s Freshman of the Year.

The Lipscomb women’s squad finished in first with 31 points, eight points ahead of second-place finisher Liberty.

On the men’s side, the Bisons won by a nail-biting one point. Lipscomb finished with 39 points, while second-place Liberty had 40.

Leber’s winning time clocked in at a blazing 24:17.54 in the 8k. Kigen earned the top time of any freshman in the race, finishing fifth in 24:49.35.
