The 2013 Lipscomb women’s golf team hit the links this week to open the fall campaign at the 18th annual Chris Banister Golf Classic at the Silver Lakes Golf Course in Glencoe, Ala.
The Lady Bisons shot a combined score of 960 (326, 323, 311) in three rounds of play, good enough for fifth-place in a six team field. The team improved their total score by 30 strokes after finishing ninth in the same event last year.
Savanna Schubert, a senior from Oak Ridge, Tenn., paced the Lady Bisons with consistent scores of 78, 78, and 79 for a total of 235 and a ninth place finish overall.
Junior Samantha Khan finished just one-stroke behind Schubert for the team lead. Khan’s three-day total of 236 (79, 80, 77) was good enough to tie for 10th place overall with Evin Edens of Belmont.
Fellow junior Morgan Bucher finished in the top-20 with a three day total of 241, placing her 17th. Mackenzy Carter and Sarah McFarlin rounded out the Lady Bisons squad with a 249 and 261 respectively.
Host Jacksonville State ran away with the tournament title after finishing only 17-over par for the event and an 881 team total.
Melani Sisto of Jacksonville St. crushed the field after shooting a 7-under, 209. She set tournament records for the 18-hole low round (67), 36-hole low total (139) and 54-hole low total (209)
