Lady Bisons finish strong in round two at APSU

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Lipscomb women’s golf team shot 638 as a team to finish ninth in the F&M APSU Intercollegiate at the Clarksville Country Club.

After shooting a 328 on Monday, the Bisons improved their score by 18-strokes on Tuesday to score a 310.

“It felt good to see the girls come back and shoot a 310 after not playing well on Monday,” coach Buddy Harston said. “We talk about never quitting and they didn’t today.”

Sami Khan led the Bisons with a 158 total over two rounds. She carded an 83 on Monday and a 75 on Tuesday after making a season-high in birdies. Khan’s total placed her in a tie for 25th overall.

“Sami made four birdies in round two, which is the most this year in 18 holes,” Harston said.

Finishing just two strokes behind Khan for the tournament, Morgan Bucher played round two at nine-over par, 81. Her two-day total of 160 put her in a tie for 37th. Bucher was the only Lady Bison to break 80 on Monday when she posted a 79.

Miriam Parker and MacKenzy Carter played identical rounds on Monday and Tuesday. In round one they both shot 83, before firing an 80 in round two. In a field of 83 players, Parker and Carter finished in a tie for 45th.

After posting her highest round of the year on Monday with an 89, Savanna Schubert turned around and posted her lowest round of three-over, 75. Her 14-shot turnaround was the best of the entire field. Schubert finished tied for 50th, placing all five Lady Bisons inside the top 50.

“Savanna played well today,” Harston said. “If we are going to reach our goals this year, then she has to play as well as she did today.”

Playing as an individual Sabrina Ferreri carded consistent scores of 83-83 for a total of 166. Ferreri placed 61st overall.

Also in individual play, Sarah McFarlin shot an 83 on Tuesday after shooting 88 in round one. She ended the intercollegiate in a tie for 71st.

Jacksonville State edged out Murray State by one-stroke for the APSU Intercollegiate crown after shooting 607 (314-293).

JSU’s 293 is tournament’s lowest single-round total when it has been held at the Clarksville Country Club. It topped the 296 by Murray State on Monday.

SIUE Edwardsville’s Molly Marcum recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 11th hole.

The Lady Bisons will return to the links Oct. 28-29 for the Braun Intercollegiate in Dayton, Ohio.

“The team has been hard at it since August,” Harston said. “So we are going to give them a few days off and then come back and be fresh for the Evansville tournament in two weeks.”
