Parker leads charge for Lady Bisons second place finish

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - After breaking the team scoring record on day one of the Braun Intercollegiate, the Lipscomb women’s golf team posted another outstanding round on Tuesday to finish in second place.

The Lady Bisons fired a school record 295 in round one and followed up with a strong 300 to finish eight strokes behind Loyola.

The second-place finish was the second of the year for the Lady Bisons and a good way to end the fall.

Miriam Parker led the charge for the Lady Bisons and fired rounds of 70-74 to tie for first place overall. Parker medaled with a two-round total of 144.

“Miriam had a really good tournament,” coach Buddy Harston said. “She shot the low score of the day on Monday with six birdies and could have shot lower but missed a couple of close putts. She was really hitting it well both days.

“Miriam played a good round today and just caught a bad break to receive a two-stroke penalty. She still shot 74, so that tells you just how good she played.”

Sami Khan posted a pair of 74s for a total of 148. Khan finished the intercollegiate tied for eighth.

The third Lady Bison to finish inside the top 30, Savanna Schubert scored rounds of 76-77 for a 148. Schubert placed in a tie for 28th.

“The girls have worked hard all fall and it kind of came together this week,” Harston said. “We had four girls play well each day and that is how you shoot a low team score.

“I thought we had a couple of really good weeks of practice leading up to the event. Everyone was just getting better.”

After shooting an 80 in round one, MacKenzy Carter bettered her score and shot a four-over par 75. Her two-round total of 155 was good enough to put Carter into a tie for 41st.

Morgan Bucher carded a four-over par 75 on Monday before shooting an 84 in round two. Bucher finished tied for 56th after shooting 159.

“It was an exceptional two days by our team,” Harston said. “It took a really low round by Loyola to beat us.

“We are elated but also disappointed about the finish. That is a sign of a really competitive team to be upset when you finish in second.”
