A-Sun Championship in sight for Lady Bisons golf

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Lipscomb women’s golf team gets set to tee it up at the 2014 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship on Monday at the Jekyll Island Golf Club.

The tournament is a 54-hole event, with 18 holes being played Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Each round will begin at 7 a.m.

The Pines Lake course is a par-72 that stretches 6,198 yards.

All 10 members of the A-Sun will be taking part in the championship. East Tennessee State is the lone team ranked in Golfstat's Top 50 at No. 45.

The Lady Bisons have had a successful season and are coming off a win at the Big Blue Invitational after shooting a team score of 316.

Miriam Parker and Sami Khan claimed three individual championships between them this season.

Khan’s victory at the Doubletree Invite in September was the first individual win for the Lipscomb program in its NCAA era. She fired a 154 (79-75) and helped her team to a second place finish.

Parker was crowned the champion after defeating the fields at the Braun Intercollegiate (144) and the Big Blue Invite (73).

Last year in the A-Sun Championship, Lipscomb finished ninth with a three-round total of 937. Savanna Schubert was the top Lady Bison, finishing tied for 16th.

MacKenzy Carter’s 73 in the final round of the championship last season is the lowest 18-hole total for a Lady Bison in its NCAA era.

East Tennessee State edged out Kennesaw State by six strokes in the 2013 championship and advanced to the NCAA East Regional where the team finished with a 17th place showing.
