GLENCOE, Ala. – The Lipscomb women’s golf team concluded the 2014 Chris Banister Golf Classic on Tuesday finishing ninth in the squad’s second event of the fall.
“I thought we would play better this week but the greens are what got us,” said Lipscomb head coach Buddy Harston. “I’m a little disappointed and I’m sure the girls are too.”
The Lady Bisons finished the event at the Silver Lakes Golf Club with a 962 final score (324-319-319).
Freshman Samantha Griffith led the Lady Bisons for the second consecutive outing finishing in a tie for tenth with a +14, 230. Griffith’s finish marks her second-straight outing with a top-10 finish after winning a share of the title at the Jan Weaver-Murray State Invitational.
Junior Miriam Parker finished just outside the top-25 with a 237 to finish tied for 28th. Freshman Charley Benefield ended the event nine strokes behind Parker with a 246 in her first collegiate event.
Senior Morgan Bucher turned in a team low 77 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a 250 earning a 47th-place finish. Freshman Jenny Muesing rounded out the competitors for the Purple and Gold with a 271 in her second collegiate tourney.
Troy University dominated the field with a 900 afte firing a week low 292 on Tuesday. The Trojans finished with a 16-stroke lead over Morehead State. Troy's Fatima Fern Cano took home medalist honors with a +1, 217 for the 54 hole-event.
The Lady Bisons return to action Oct. 12-14 at the F&M Bank-APSU Intercollegiate.
“We go to Austin Peay next so we’ll be working hard the next two weeks to get ready for that tournament.”
