PORTLAND, Oregon – With the 2015-16 school year less than two weeks away, Lipscomb sophomore golfer Samantha Griffith spent part of her short remaining break competing in the 2015 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Portland Golf Club in Portland, Oregon.
“It was awesome getting to play in the biggest amateur tournament that over 12,000 golfers tried to qualify for and to be one of the 155 that made the cut,” said Griffith. “It was fun meeting a lot of new people.
“I played against some really good golfers and some strong competition. I think it was a real boost of confidence for me.”
Despite a solid opening round, Griffith missed the cut as the top 64 players in the event advanced to match play.
“Samantha has put forth a lot of effort to get where she is today,” said Lipscomb women’s golf coach Skye Rogers. “She is so passionate about this game and dedicated to improving.
“She's already told me of new things she wants to work on. I know she will continue to do great things. I'm really proud of all she's accomplished.”
Griffith returns for the Lady Bisons in 2015-16 after earning Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman honors this past spring.
