Griffith leads way at ASUN Women's Golf Championship day one

BRASELTON, Ga. – Behind a second-round, -4, 69, Lipscomb’s Samantha Griffith soared eight places on the leaderboard to take the lead at the 2017 ASUN Conference Women’s Golf Championship at the Chateau Elan in Braselton, Georgia on Sunday.

Herd notes:

  • Griffith opened the two-day, 54-hole event with a +4, 77 giving her an even par 146 (77-69) for the two rounds.
  • Griffith’s 69 was the best round of the day by two strokes.
  • She heads into Monday’s final round with a one-stroke lead over North Florida’s Sydney Shrader and FGCU’s Kelsy Holbert.
  • Lauryn Davidson fired a +23, 169 (91-78) to finish the day in 31st.
  • Charley Benefield finished the day two strokes behind Davidson with a +25, 171 (86-85) in 32nd.
  • Hillary Reader ended the day in 34th with a +28, 174 (92-82).
  • Jenny Muesing carded an opening round 91 before withdrawing in round two.
  • The Lady Bisons finished the first day in seventh behind a +75, 659 (345-314).
