Former Bisons baseball player Brian Jones spent some time with LipscombSports.com for our “Where are they now?” feature.

What is your fondest athletic memory at Lipscomb?

“Baseball in the springs of 1982-1985 with coaches Ken Dugan and Al Austelle”

Who had the biggest influence on you during your athletic career at Lipscomb?

“There are too many to give any one individual item its proper due but a few were: (1) Receiving my practice uniform signifying that I made the team as a freshman; (2) Watching the joy of Coach Dugan and his family celebrating his 800th victory; (3) The school and community involvement at our games at the old site of Ken Dugan Field including installing and removing the outfield fence before and after games; and (4) The absolute honor of being named by Coach Dugan as captain of the team prior to my senior year.

“It would be difficult to mention anyone other than Coach Dugan who always provided genuine encouragement, strict discipline, a Christ-like foundation for the program and a championship legacy. He taught not only the fine aspects of practicing and playing but the Christian values that must accompany those activities.”

What is your fondest non-athletic memory from your time at Lipscomb?

“Evening Devo's in the Square”

What is the most valuable thing you gained or learned from your time at Lipscomb?

“The ability to work effectively in a team environment being grounded with strong Christian principles.”

Who was your favorite professor?

“Dr. Marvin Nikolaus - although I wasn't a great student by any stretch, Dr. Nikolaus took a very keen interest to personally help me with my academic skills. Wonderfully meek, he brought a very firm sense of discipline with a quick wit and strong Christian values. He showed true service to each of the students.”

Where do you live now?

“I live in Brentwood, Tenn.”

Where do you work?

“Black Box Corporation - Vice President-Siemens Alliance - I manage our firms Global Relationship with Siemens Enterprise Networks. As the largest distributor for Siemens telecommunications equipment in North America, I'm responsible for all business and market relationship issues with the manufacturer.”

Tell us about your family:

“My wife Jennifer and I have been married for 20 years and have been blessed with three wonderful children: Benton, Catherine, and Matthew. We attend the Brentwood Hills congregation and our daughter attends Lipscomb Middle School.”
