Lipscomb's Lady Bisons soccer team opened up an offensive assault in the first half against South Carolina State, but fell short in their season opener, a 2-1 loss on the road in Orangeburg.
Each team was credited with six shots on goal. It was the season opener for both teams.
The Lady Bisons held a 7-5 edge in shots in the first half with neither team finding the goal. The Lady Bisons also held a 14-8 shot advantage for the game
At the 48:50 mark of the second half South Carolina State broke the scoreless deadlock with a free kick by Lauren Emrich, who had a game-high four shots on goal.
Forward Melissa Chambers answered for the Lady Bisons, scoring on a top shelf free kick that went high over the head of South Carolina State goalkeeper Alechia Brothers.
Star Tazwell put South Carolina ahead to stay when she scored on a breakaway at 68:36.
Bethany Copeland was in goal for the Lady Bisons. She made four saves in the loss.
The Lady Bisons close out the road trip Sunday at 1 p.m. with a stop at Winthrop.
