JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Lipscomb Lady Bisons soccer team was outgunned and outplayed by the Jacksonville Dolphins, Friday night, losing 2-0 in the Atlantic Sun contest played at the Ashley Sports Complex.

Despite a season-high 10 saves from keeper Erin Zerio, Lipscomb (4-10-1, 2-4-0 in the A-Sun) didn’t bring enough offensive firepower to this one. Jacksonville (9-5-2, 5-1-1 A-Sun) outshot the Lady Bisons 25-6 in this one, including 17 first-half shot attempts.

“They are a very good team,” said Lipscomb head coach Jon Ireland. “Clearly, they were the better team tonight.”

Lipscomb had an opportunity to take the lead in the very first minute of the game. Senior Meghan McGuire had a look at an open net, but fired the shot high.

The Dolphins, spurred on by the near-miss, would score in the fifth minute on Liz Fink’s fourth goal of the season. She was assisted by Julia Burton.

In the 16th minute, Emily Culbreth would put Jacksonville up 2-0 on her season’s second goal. She and Raquel Weckhurst played a give-and-go that ended with Culbreth firing a low shot to the left side past Zerio.

“We didn’t adjust to their team speed early enough,” Ireland conceded. “After they got two goals, we settled down and played better with them.”

“We had tactical issues early on; our defense was shoddy. After halftime, we adjusted and were less confused. We competed better and got in fewer one-on-one situations.”

After McGuire’s early miss, Lipscomb’s best offensive chances came from sophomore Alex Wagner. She put shots on goal in the 39th and 77th minutes for the Lady Bisons only two shots on goal in the contest.

The Lady Bisons will be back in action Sunday when they travel across Jacksonville for a 12 noon match-up with North Florida.
