NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team has been picked to finish ninth in the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches’ poll released on Wednesday. The Lady Bisons, who finished the 2011 season with a 4-13-1 record while posting a 2-7-0 record in A-sun play, garnered 34 points including a first-place vote in the poll, finished just one point shy of eighth place Northern Kentucky and 18 points ahead of tenth place USC Upstate.
Florida Gulf Coast, one of three schools to tie for the conference championship last season, was picked as the early favorite this year picking up 91 points and five first place votes in the process. Jacksonville and ETSU, the other two members of the tri-champs last season, finished second and third respectively in the poll.
Katrina Frost of Kennesaw State picked up Preseason Player of the Year honors while Ashley Ciesielczyk of FGCU was tabbed as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Nikki Atkinson of Mercer was honored as the top goalkeeper in the preseason.
The Lady Bisons head across town for an exhibition game against Belmont on Friday Aug. 10 at Rose Park with kickoff at 6 p.m. The regular season slate gets underway with a home match against Jackson State on Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.
