MACON, Ga. – Lipscomb women’s soccer standout Ellen Lundy was named to the Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference Team, announced Thursday by the office.
“I think Ellen is a wonderful player for us, and I’m excited she’s gotten the award,” said Kevin O’Brien, head soccer coach. “I’m happy the other coaches in the conference recognized the value she brought to our team.”
Lundy also picked up the Preseason Player of the Year award with 147 votes. For the third year in a row, the preseason superlative awards were voted on by the fans via Facebook.
During the 2013 season, Lundy started in 18 of her 19 games played leading the team in points with 31 as well as 14 goals and four game-winning goals.
“She was one of the top three or four scorers in the league so that’s going to turn heads, and ultimately I think coaches are going to reward the player this season who finished well last season,” O’Brien said.
A member of the 2013 A-Sun All-Conference First Team, Lundy’s 14 goals ranked second in the conference. She went on to lead her team to their first ever appearance in the A-Sun Championship.
“The one thing I would say about Ellen is not only is she a great player on the field, she leads by example off the field, in the classroom and how she interacts with her teammates and the coaching staff and even the faculty and staff at the university,” O’Brien said. “She is just a great person.
“It’s wonderful to have the combination of the two, wonderful soccer player and wonderful person. She’s just one you are very thankful to have on your team.”
