Two years ago the Kennesaw State women's soccer team was the National Champion of NCAA Division II. They aren't doing too badly on the Division I level either.
Kennesaw State, one of three new additions to the Atlantic Sun Conference this season, made their first visit to Lipscomb University a successful one with a 7-1 victory on a chilly, windy Saturday afternoon.
Kennesaw State jumped out to a 3-0 first half lead with goals by midfielder Mandy Nolin at 7:58, forward Laura Tucker at 20:40 on a header and midfielder Lindsey Smith a 44:51.
Kennesaw State scored its first of four second half goals at 67:03 when Katrina Hirsch found the net on a penalty kick,
Nolin scored her second goal of the game with a header at 71:10. Forward Stephanie Grzeszkowiak found the net with a shot that went through traffic and into the net at 84:24. Midfielder Abby Hirsch closed out the scoring with a goal at 86:47.
Nolin finished with two goals. Defender Katrina Hirsch, Grzeszkowiak and Laura Tucker each added a goal and an assist. Midfielder Sarah Marek was credited with two assists.
Kennesaw State made 42 shots, 19 of them on goal. Forward Pip Meo, Tucker and Abby Hirsch each had five shots to lead Kennesaw State.
The Lady Bisons had four shots, three of them shots on goal. Chambers led with three shots, two shots on goal. Jordan scored on her only attempt.
Lipscomb goalkeeper Bethany Copeland made 12 saves. Jessica Marek was in goal for Kennesaw State. She made two saves.
Kennesaw State is 9-2-1, 5-1 in the A-Sun. The Lady Bisons are 0-12-1, 0-4 in the conference.
