Sunday, September 21, 2008The Lipscomb Lady Bisons extended their unbeaten string to two games with a 2-1 victory Sunday afternoon on the road at Jackson State in Jackson, Miss.
In the first half sophomore forward Halie Proffitt scored at the 31-minute mark to give the Lady Bisons the early lead.
Proffitt made seven shot attempts and four shots on goal, both game highs.
“We played really well,” said Lipscomb coach Jon Ireland. “We had chance after chance, but we just couldn’t finish. But we played well enough to win and that is what is important.”
Sophomore forward Kate Spellman scored at the 77-minute mark in the second half for the Lady Bisons.
In the 89th minute of the game Jacksonville State found the net when freshman Polina Onyalo scored on a corner kick.
“Defensively, we shut them down,” Ireland said. “The only real shot they had was the corner kick near the end.”
