Lady Bisons back home to face Ark.-Pine Pluff

SEPT. 6, 2009

THE SERIES: This is the third meeting between the two teams. The Lady Bisons are 1-0-1 in the series with both games being played on the road at Pine Bluff. Last season the two teams battled to a 2-2 tie Sept. 19. In 2006 the Lady Bisons beat Pine Bluff 6-0.

WELCOME HOME: The Lady Bisons are back home after a three-game road trip that started with a 2-0 loss at UT-Martin, a 1-0 win at Troy and a 2-0 loss at Chattanooga Friday night.

The game is being played on the practice field next to Cofer's Chapel at 3915 Franklin Pike while work is being completed on the turf on the main soccer field on campus.

The Lady Bisons get a chance to rest a little this next week. They will not play again until Sunday (Sept.13) when Central Arkansas visits.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Lady Bisons two victories have been 1-0 decisions. The two losses have been 2-0 outcomes.

MORE TALENTED BY THE DOZEN: The Lady Bisons are young, but they are talented thanks to the addition of 12 freshmen _ goalkeepers Erin Zerio and Ally Marler; defenders Katie Wood, Kameron Stilwell, Andie Thornton, Ashley Duggins, Courtney Williams and Katie Wood; forwards Emily Longden, Amber Evaniuk and Hope Proffitt and midfielder Martika Powe.

NET CHALLENGE: With the departure of Katie Shelton through graduation the goalkeepers spot is being held down by two freshmen. Coach Jon Ireland is splitting playing time each game between Erin Zerio and Ally Marler.

The pair have teamed for two shutouts, stopping Austin Peay 1-0 and Troy 1-0.

SCORING LEADERS RETURN: Junior forward Kate Spellman, with four goals and six assists, returns this season along with senior forward/midfielder Brandi Besheres with four goals and two assists.

IN THE POLLS: The Lady Bisons were picked to finish 10th in the Atlantic Sun Preseason Poll. The conference coaches voted the Lady Bisons one point ahead of USC Upstate which was ranked 11th.
