Lady Bisons edged by Stetson 2-0
The Lady Bisons soccer team was handed another hard-fought Atlantic Sun Conference loss on Friday, as they were defeated 2-0 at the Stetson Soccer Complex in DeLand, Fla.

With the loss, Lipscomb fell to 4-12 overall and 0-8 in the A-Sun while Stetson improved to 7-8 and 4-3-1 in league play.

The Hatters scored its only goal of the first half at the 30:33 mark when Sarah Mathews scored off a corner-kick deflection from teammate Tessa Gavilsky from 15-yards out.

Stetson extended its lead with 59 seconds remaining in the contest as Gavilsky headed a Kassandra Hartwick corner kick into the top-left corner of the net.

Stetson edged the Lady Bisons, 14-13 in shots while LU had six corner kicks compared to five for the Hatters.

Kirsten Heikkinen and Tatjana Shirley led the Lady Bisons in shots with four and three, respectively.

Erin Zerio made five saves in the loss.

The Lady Bisons will stay in the Sunshine state for two more days as they will play Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday.

Following Sunday’s match with FGCU, the women’s soccer team will conclude the season at cross-town rival Belmont on Saturday, Oct. 23.
