CINCINNATI – Traveling for the first time this season, the Lipscomb women’s soccer team fell 2-1 to Xavier on Monday night at the Xavier University Soccer Complex in Cincinnati as the Musketeers scored the go-ahead goal with just seven minutes remaining.

The Musketeers got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute as Sydnee Fields found the back of the net after receiving a pass from Mariah Whitaker six yards out.

Lipscomb found a way to battle back quickly. Utilizing a free kick ten yards out of the box, freshman Alex Hickey tied the game at 1-1 for the Lady Bisons just five minutes later with her first collegiate tally.

In the 84th minute, XU scored as Mariah Whitaker found an opening to the goal to take the 2-1 lead.

A staunch Xavier defense limited Lipscomb to six shots on the evening and none following a Baylee Linnell shot in the 83rd minute. The sophomore Linnell had three shots for the Lady BIsons while freshmen Hickey, Caroline Chadwell, and Cristina Giron each had a shot.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Zerio made eight saves for the Lady Bisons while her counterpart Katie Markesbery of Xavier made three saves.

Staying on the road, Lipscomb travels to Conway, Ark. on Friday, Aug. 24, for a 4 p.m. match against Central Arkansas.
