CONWAY, Ark. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team gave up an early goal while unable to find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss to Central Arkansas at Bill Stephens Soccer Complex in Conway, Ark. on Friday afternoon.
Lipscomb (1-2-0) took aim with 13 shots, placing five on goal, but were unable to convert on any opportunity. Central Arkanas (3-0-0) countered with 14 shots and the goal scored from Adriana Lucar in the eleventh minute of play.
“One special player made one special run and scored a wonderful goal,” coach Kevin O’Brien said. “That was the difference. Otherwise it was a very even game.”
Senior goalkeeper Erin Zerio made seven stops on the afternoon, including back-to-back saves in the 65th minute with Cassie Lange and Lucar firing two shots within nine seconds of each other.
The Lady Bisons received six shots from freshman Caroline Chadwell, including three that landed on goal.
“We had some great chances to score,” O’Brien said. “But we just could not convert.”
Despite the loss, O’Brien is seeing positives to learn from.
“As frustrating as it is to lose close games, I am happy to see our team competing so well considering all of the youngsters playing right now,” O’Brien said.
The Lady Bisons look to rebound on Tuesday, Aug. 24 as they travel to Austin Peay for a 7 p.m. contest in Clarksville, Tenn.
