JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team did what only three other teams were able to do this year, not allowing a Ramey Kerns goal. However, a first-half goal for ETSU was all the offense that was needed as the Lady Bisons dropped a 1-0 Atlantic Sun Conference loss on Sunday afternoon in Johnson City, Tenn.
The Lady Bisons (2-10-4, 0-6-2 ASUN) held the nation’s leading scorer at bay but were unable to overcome an ETSU (11-4-0, 4-2-0 ASUN) 17th minute goal from Samantha Kron. Kron placed a well-struck ball from just outside the left corner of the penalty box into the goal for the game-winner.
"It was a great display of attacking soccer today by ETSU and an equally strong defensive performance from our girls," Lipscomb head coach Kevin O'Brien said.
ETSU offered a relentless attack with 28 shots. Senior Erin Zerio fell one save shy from tying a career record of 14 saves. With 13 saves, Zerio surpassed Erin Switalski and Sylvia Vigil for eighth place all-time in the A-Sun record book with 341 career saves.
"I really appreciate how our players worked for one another and gave a champions effort against a top-quality opponent," O'Brien said.
The Lady Bisons return to the friendly confines of the Lipscomb Soccer Complex to host “Senior Day” on Saturday. Lipscomb plays their first-ever match against the newcomers of the A-Sun, Northern Kentucky.
