Women’s soccer set for A-Sun home opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In the Atlantic Sun Conference home opener, the Lipscomb women’s soccer team welcomes Stetson and the A-Sun preseason favorite Florida Gulf Coast to the Lipscomb Soccer Complex Friday and Sunday, respectively.

Friday’s game with the Hatters is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday’s match with FGCU will begin at 1 p.m.

The Lady Bisons (4-5-2, 1-1-0 A-Sun) are coming off their first A-Sun victory in nearly two years, having defeated last seasons A-Sun Championship runner-up Mercer 2-1. Freshman phenom Ellen Lundy scored both goals in the victory.

Lundy is ranked 6th nationally with 11 goals, 6th with 25 points, 8th with 1 goal per game and 10th averaging 2.27 points per game. She is the top freshman in each category and leads the A-Sun in all four categories.

Stetson enters Friday’s contest 3-6-1 and 1-1-0 in the A-Sun. Alyssa Welsh and Kait Jones each have two goals for the Hatters while Amber Grose has four assists. Victoria Troccoli has logged every minute in the goal stopping 33 shots and owning a 1.92 goals against average.

Florida Gulf Coast, 7-3-1 overall and 2-0-0 in the A-Sun, features the A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year in Ally Kasum. However, freshman Tabitha Tindell leads the Eagles with seven goals and two assists in what could be a showdown for freshman of the year with Lundy.

With a balanced scoring attack, the Eagles have 10 different players who have scored a goal this year while averaging two goals a game. Goalkeeper Brittany Brown has started all 11 games amassing 43 saves and a 1.08 goals against average.

Both contests can be viewed for free on ASun.TV.
