HIGHLAND HEIGHS, Ky. – After 110 minutes of play, the Lipscomb women’s soccer team battled to its fifth draw of the season in a 0-0 tie with Northern Kentucky Saturday in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
Freshman goalkeeper Anna Buhigas added to her school record with her sixth shutout of the year as the Lady Bisons are 5-6-5 overall, 2-2-3 in the A-Sun. The Norse are 4-10-2 overall, 0-6-1 in the loop.
“It was a very competitive game tonight,” Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “I thought NKU came out a little bit sharper than we did. Thankfully, we defended well and kept them off the scoreboard in the first half.”
Lipscomb had two great opportunities to reach the scoreboard as junior Baylee Linnell broke free from the defense on the left side of the field and fired a shot that NKU goalkeeper Tanner Ruberg barely got her hands on for one of her five saves.
Not long after Linnell’s play, sophomore Molly Bray stuck a shot from 18 yards out that ricocheted off the left post and out of play.
“Slowly we got into the game and played much better in the second half,” O’Brien said. “Ultimately, overtime was our best stretch of soccer. I was happy with the way we finished, but we have got to come out and do that for 90 minutes.”
Buhigas’ seven saves positioned her into the league lead with 93 saves this year. Her sixth shutout positioned her into sole position of the league lead, having bumped up from a four-way tie.
The Lady Bisons return home for the final two regular season contests hosting ETSU on Friday at 7 p.m. and USC Upstate 1 p.m. on Sunday which is also Senior Day.
