Women's soccer to face Vanderbilt, Samford over weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team will embark on a weekend of competitive matches beginning Friday when the team faces Vanderbilt followed by a clash with Samford on Sunday.

The Lady Bisons, 4-2-1 on the season, are enjoying a three-game winning streak after picking up a 2-0 win over Chattanooga Sunday night.

Sophomores Carolyn Springsteen and Ellen Lundy contributed the only goals scored against the Mocs. Springsteen’s goal was a header, assisted by Natalie DuBoise, off a corner kick while Lundy landed a header of her own to secure the Lady Bison victory.

Vanderbilt, 3-3-0, is on a two-game losing streak falling to North Texas Sunday 1-0 and Rice Friday 2-1 in overtime. Cherrelle Jarrett scored the only goal for the Commodores after nailing a header off a free kick.

The Commodores are led by Colby Ciarrocca with four season goals and Simone Charley posting 16 shots.

Goalie Christiana Ogunsami leads the SEC in saves collecting 30 averaging 5.00 per game.

Also 3-3-0 on the season, Samford fell to No. 3 Virginia 3-1 Sunday. The team faces No. 18 Auburn Friday night before touting with the Lady Bisons Sunday.

Samford goalie Anna Maddox ranks third in the Southern Conference in saves recording 28 while Heather Lacy leads the Bulldogs with three goals on the season.

Friday’s contest at Vanderbilt begins at 7 p.m. Sunday’s match begins at 6 p.m. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
