Buhigas, Springsteen pick up A-Sun academic honors

MACON, Ga. – Anna Buhigas and Carolyn Springsteen of the Lipscomb women’s soccer team have put in countless hours of hard work both on and off the field.

The pair was named to the Atlantic Sun Academic All-Conference Team with Buhigas picking up Scholar Athlete of the Year after demonstrating superb leadership and effort both athletically and academically.

Buhigas possess a 4.0 GPA in Spanish Education. The native of Columbus, Ohio has started in all 18 games for the Lady Bisons. Her GAA of 0.78 ranks second in the A-Sun and 54th in the nation while her save percentage of .835 ranks third in the conference and 52nd in the nation.

She has faced 216 shots on the season collecting 71 saves. Buhigas is on pace to break the school record for fewest goals allowed in a season with 14 after breaking the record last season with 22.

Springsteen holds a 3.9 GPA in accounting. The sophomore from Mason, Ohio, has started in all 17 games this season. The two-time A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week tallied two goals for the Purple and Gold with one being the game-winner against Chattanooga.

Her game-winning strike against the Mocs back in September secured a third-consecutive victory for the Lady Bisons marking a program best.

The two have played a pivotal role in the team’s continued success leading the Lady Bisons to a record 10 wins as well as their second-ever A-Sun Conference Tournament where they notched the No. 2 seed. The team travels to Fort Myers, Florida for the semifinals of the A-Sun Tournament Nov. 7.
