Women's soccer releases 2015 fall schedule

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team has announced its schedule for the 2015 season.

Head coach Kevin O’Brien’s squad is coming off the most successful season in program history with a second place finish in the Atlantic Sun Conference and six Lady Bisons named to All-Conference teams.

"We are very happy to finally get our schedule released to the Lady Bison soccer fans out there,” O’Brien said. "Overall, it's going to be a fun and challenging schedule. The non-conference portion is incredibly diverse, with the SEC, AAC, C-USA, SoCon, and the OVC all represented."

The Purple and Gold will be taking on a strong slate of teams, including three from the SEC and one from the American Conference.

Four of Lipscomb’s opponents finished the 2014 season ranked in the RPI top 100.

"We are very excited to have three SEC opponents on our schedule for the first time in our programs history, knowing that a challenging non-conference is key to preparing ourselves to compete well during the A-Sun season,” O’Brien said.

After exhibitions at the University of Alabama-Birmingham on Aug. 12 and at home against Belmont on Aug. 16, the Lady Bisons kick off the season regular season on the road against the Tennessee Volunteers.

Lipscomb’s first game of the year will be against Ball State on Aug. 23. followed by a trip to Cincinnati on Aug. 27.

Next up will be a home match with Jacksonville State on Aug. 30 and an away game at Alabama A&M on Sept. 1 before a trio of contests against in-state opponents: at home versus UT-Chattanooga on Sept. 4, and at Vanderbilt and MTSU on Sept. 6 and 10 respectively.

The Lady Bisons will welcome their third SEC foe of the year, Mississippi State, to Nashville on Sept.13.

Lipscomb will host UT-Martin, Akron and Western Carolina for the Nike Invitational with the squad taking on Akron and Western Carolina on Sept. 17 and 19.

Conference play will begin for Lipscomb with a trip to Kennesaw State on Sept. 26. The first home A-Sun matchup of the season will be against USC Upstate on Oct. 3.

A-Sun games at Jacksonville (Oct. 9) and at North Florida (Oct. 11) will precede a home tilt against the defending conference champions Florida Gulf Coast on Oct. 16.

The Lady Bisons will close out the regular season with a home match against Stetson on Oct. 18 followed by an away date at new A-Sun member NJIT on Oct. 24.

"We're excited to have a new conference member in NJIT, and we are looking forward to taking our first east coast trip to New York/New Jersey this fall," O’Brien said.

With one of the program’s toughest slate of games ever, the Lady Bisons are up for the challenge of repeating last year’s successful season.
