NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team has completed preseason play and the results were promising for the upcoming regular season.
The Lady Bisons closed out the preseason Sunday night with a 3-0 victory over Battle of the Boulevard rival Belmont.
Lipscomb came out attacking with several shots early in the game before senior Elizabeth Ashwood found the back of the net in the 44th minute off of an assist from freshman Dominique Diller.
Preseason All-Atlantic Sun First Team member Jade Abarca gave Lipscomb the 2-0 lead after slotting in a penalty in the 54th minute.
Molly Bray put the game away in the 83rd minute. The senior sent a header into the top right corner of the goal off of a perfectly placed ball from junior Alesondra Colbert.
“”We scored goals, and that’s the hardest part of the game,” Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “We’re really excited about that. We had some chances in our first match against UAB in the preseason, and we couldn’t score. Tonight, we converted our chances, and had a considerable amount more.”
The Purple and Gold started off the preseason on Wednesday with a scoreless tie against the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB). At the Blazers home field, Lipscomb’s defense stepped up and held UAB in check.
“It was all about getting organized defensively and working collectively together” O’Brien said. “They did great. They limited them [UAB] to a few good chances, and we got a shutout. Ultimately that’s what we were looking for going into that match.”
The Lady Bisons will kick off the regular season on August 21 in Knoxville against Tennessee at 6 p.m. followed by a home match on August 23 with Ball State at 12:00 p.m.
