Women's soccer to take on FGCU in A-Sun Final

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Lipscomb (12-3-4) women’s soccer team looks to avenge its lone regular season conference loss as a date with top-seeded FGCU (12-5-2) looms in the Atlantic Sun Tournament Final on Sunday.

The Lady Bisons earned a first-round bye in the tournament thanks to a school record for wins in a season, and followed the bye with a controlling 3-0 win over Jacksonville in the semifinals. In the victory, sophomore Jade Abarca, senior Alex Hickey and freshman Brooke Brenner all netted goals for the Lady Bisons.

Junior Goalkeeper Anna Buhigas also set the A-Sun single-season record for shutouts in a season during the win with 13.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES:

  • The Eagles won their semifinal matchup over Stetson 5-0. Seniors Tabby Tindell and Shea Rhoney, junior Ali Rogers, sophomore Meaghan Mulligan, and freshman Shay Jackson all scored for the Eagles.
  • Tindell leads the conference and the team with 16 goals, nine assists, 41 points, 78 shots, and 54 shots on goal. Tindell has won the A-Sun Player of the Year two years in a row.
  • Seniors Emma Blackwell was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the year. Joining her and Tindwell on the A-Sun All-Conference First Team were senior Ally Kasun and sophomore Nikki Hudson.
  • Junior Paulina Speckmaier and senior Shea Rhoney earned spots on the Second Team All-Conference.
  • Camille Knudstrup and Darien Davis landed on the A-Sun All-Freshman Team.

QUICK HITS

  • Buhigas currently leads the A-Sun in shutouts (13), GAA (0.49), and save percentage (.904). She is also third in the A-Sun with 94 saves. In the nation, Buhigas ranks sixth in save percentage, 13th in GAA, 59th in total saves, and 55th in goalkeeper minutes played (1826).
  • Freshman Maycie McKay leads the Lady Bisons in goals with eight, good enough for third in the A-Sun. She is also third in the A-Sun in points with 19, thanks to her three assists, and is ninth in shots with 40. She leads Lipscomb in all of these categories, as well as shots on goal with 22.
  • During the regular season matchup between the two teams, FGCU defeated Lipscomb in Nashville 2-1. Hickey scored for Lipscomb, while Tindwell and Rogers scored for the Eagles.
