Women's soccer announces 2016 signing class

NASHVILLE - Following a 12-win season and reaching the Atlantic Sun Conference final, Lipscomb head coach Kevin O’Brien is proud to announce the Lipscomb women’s soccer team’s 2016 signing class. O’Brien, with help from associate head coach Kelsey Fenix, has assembled a strong recruiting class that includes seven student-athletes from the U.S. and one international player from Belgium.

"We are beyond excited because these players will positively impact our team on and off the field as freshmen,” O'Brien said. “As we continue to build this program, we knew the class of 2016 had to give us greater competition within the squad and undoubtedly these girls accomplish that need.”

Lipscomb’s 2016 signees are Olivia Doak, Audrey Ann Beck, Selah Gilmore, Hailey Eck, Leah Cernicky, Melissa Gray, Lotte DeWilde, and Bri Caccavale. These 8 student-athletes contain a variety of skills that add depth to the Lady Bisons’ roster at all positions. By position, Lipscomb adds one goalkeeper, two defenders, two midfielders, and three forwards.

“We add pace, power, intelligence, and competitiveness to the squad with these ladies, and we cannot be more pleased,” O’Brien said. “They fit our Lipscomb Soccer culture to a tee because each has a heart to glorify God with their talents and abilities, and an equal hunger to get to the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history. I love that."

The eight Bison newcomers will join the 20 returners for the 2016 season. Lipscomb finished the 2015 campaign in second place and reached double-digit victories for the second year in a row.

“As has been the case each of the last three years, this class makes us more talented from top to bottom,” O’Brien said. “We return nine starters from last season, so we feel we’ve got a very strong nucleus to build upon right from day one of preseason. This is great news considering we’ll be playing the toughest schedule in program history.”
