Women's soccer earns several preseason accolades

MACON, Ga. - The Lipscomb women’s soccer team head into the 2016 regular season with high expectations following a program-best 2015 campaign and the Atlantic Sun Preseason Conference Awards added to the anticipation.

Senior Anna Buhigas was unanimously voted the Preseason Goalkeeper of the Year. The two-time reigning winner of the ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year award is the heavy favorite to take home the award for a third time.

Junior Niamh Rawlins was chosen as the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year following her All-Conference First Team performance from last season.

After coming off an ASUN Freshman of the Year campaign, sophomore Maycie McKay was joined Buhigas and Rawlins on the Preseason All-Conference Team.

The Lady Bisons placed second in the Preseason Coaches Poll with 56 points, just behind first place Florida Gulf Coast’s 63. The Purple and Gold received one first place vote and finished 13 points ahead of third place Jacksonville.

The ASUN Preseason Conference Awards are voted on by the ASUN head coaches.

Lipscomb will hit the field for the start of the regular season on Aug. 19 with the Battle of the Boulevard against Belmont taking place at 7 p.m. at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
