NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team is back at home for the second time this weekend with a local team visiting.
Sunday at 5 p.m. Vanderbilt will make the short trip to the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
The Lady Bisons opened the season Friday night in a 1-1 tie in double overtime with Belmont in the women’s soccer version of the “Battle of the Boulevard”. Vanderbilt also played an overtime game Friday, winning 2-1 on the road at Miami (Ohio).
Lipscomb’s lone goal against Belmont was scored by freshman forward Olivia Doak. Vanderbilt also was paced by a pair of newcomers, freshman Kaylann Boyd and transfer Jacqueline Welch, who both scored their first collegiate goals against the Redhawks.
Series history: The last two seasons Vanderbilt has prevailed in both matches with Lipscomb. Both were shutouts against Lipscomb with a 2-0 loss in 2015 and a 1-0 defeat in 2014. Both games were played at Vanderbilt.
Scouting Vanderbilt: The Commodores were picked to finish 10th by SEC coaches this season.
They return six starters and 15 letterwinners. Four players – Cristina De Zeeuw, Sasha Gray, Kacy Scarpa and Lydia Simmons – were named to the SEC preseason watch list.
Lipscomb notes: Lipscomb goalkeeper Anna Buhigas turned back six shots against Belmont for her 12th career tie.
Doak led the Lady Bisons in shots with five and shots on goal with two.
Forward Maycie McKay made three shots, one on goal.
