LakePoint, Ga. – Lipscomb’s Olivia Doak and Anna Buhigas swept the first ASUN Conference Women’s Soccer Weekly Honors of the 2016 season after an outstanding weekend on the pitch, announced by the league office on Monday.
Doak, a freshman from Shelbyville, Tennessee, was name the ASUN Player of the Week after starting her Lipscomb career with a bang by scoring all three of the Lady Bisons goals over the weekend.
In the Battle of the Boulevard, she tallied the lone strike in a 1-1 draw before adding a goal in each half of a 2-0 victory over crosstown-rival Vanderbilt Sunday. The win marked a milestone for the program as it was the first time the Lipscomb women’s soccer team has ever beaten an SEC program.
Doak finished the opening weekend as the league’s top goal scorer and points leader with nine. She placed six of her nine shots on target in the two matches.
Buhigas snatched up her fourth career ASUN Defensive Player of the Week award after guiding Lipscomb to an unblemished 1-0-1 record. The senior netminder totaled nine saves, including six against rival Belmont in the season opener.
The Columbus, Ohio native notched her 29th career clean sheet with the shutout of Vanderbilt, placing her third all-time in ASUN history. She needs just nine more to set the league’s career record.
Buhigas posted a 0.45 goals allowed average and a .900 save percentage.
The Lady Bisons return to the pitch Friday when they travel to Starkville, Mississippi to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in a 7 p.m. tilt.
