Women's soccer set for two home matches over Labor Day weekend

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team is ready to take the field for a pair of home matches over the long weekend as local foes Middle Tennessee and Austin Peay are set for a trip to Nashville.

MT is set to visit at 7 p.m. on Thursday, while the matchup with Austin Peay will kick off at 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The Lady Bisons are coming off of one of the best, and toughest, early-season schedules in program history.

Lipscomb faced three consecutive Southeastern Conference opponents, knocking off Vanderbilt and Mississippi State for the first wins over an SEC foe in school history before falling to Ole Miss

Scouting the Bulldogs and Rebels:

  • MT heads into the matchup with a 2-1 record, with the most recent outing being a 3-0 loss to Florida State at home.
  • Sophomore Abbie Brown has led the way for the Blue Raiders so far with two goals and one assist. She leads the team with five total points.
  • Austin Peay enters the weekend undefeated at 3-0. The team’s most recent match resulted in a 2-0 home win over Evansville.
  • Junior Kristin Robertson has notched three goals on seven shots so far this season for the Govs to total six points.

Quick Hits:

  • The Lady Bisons are 0-4-3 in the series matchup against MT, including a 2-2 tie on the road last season. Lipscomb is 3-8-1 all-time against Austin Peay, with the most recent outing being a 2-0 Bison victory.
  • Senior goalkeeper Anna Buhigas snatched up her fourth career Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for her performance in the team’s two opening week victories. She totaled nine saves against Vanderbilt and Belmont, and tallied her 29th career shutout with the clean sheet against Vanderbilt. She was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, a first in the history of the program.
  • Freshman Olivia Doak was named the ASUN Player of the Week in her first week of action for the Lady Bisons. She scored all three of the team’s goals during the week: two against Vanderbilt and one against Belmont. She finished the opening weekend as the league leader in points and goals.
