Doak scores two as women's soccer stays undefeated at home

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb (4-1-1) women’s soccer team kept an undefeated home record as it earned a 3-1 win over Austin Peay (3-2-0) at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex on Sunday night.

“It was wonderful right out of the gates,” Lipscomb women’s soccer head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “I thought we were the aggressors, and we put them on their back foot by scoring early goals. When you do that, you really set yourself up for success.”

The Lady Bisons struck early as freshman Olivia Doak scored twice in the game’s first 10 minutes, her team and conference-leading fifth and sixth goals of the season.

“Olivia’s a handful,” O’Brien said. “It’s going to get harder and harder as more teams scout her and prepare for her, but even then she’ll be difficult because she’s powerful, she’s skillful, and she’s got a nice finishing touch.”

Sophomore Maycie McKay and junior Natalie DuBoise teamed up to help Doak score the first goal in the 4th minute of play.

On the second goal, McKay started the attack and Doak finished it by curling in a shot from over 20 yards out.

The Purple and Gold notched a third first-half goal as DuBoise netted a shot from the top of the box. The score was set up by McKay, her third assist of the game, which is the second highest single-game mark in team history.

“I really challenged the girls,” O’Brien said. “I told them they have to come out fast and take it to the opponent. It hasn’t been our M.O. for the longest time, but the last two games it’s been wonderful.”

Austin Peay snatched their lone goal of the match in the 25th minute. Junior Kirstin Robertson slotted in a penalty after a Bison handball in the box. The goal was Robertson’s fourth of the season.

QUICK HITS:

  • Lipscomb’s series record against Austin Peay now stands at 4-8-1.
  • The Lady Bisons outshot the Governors 15-12, with a 7-4 shots-on-goal advantage.
  • Lipscomb won the corner kick battle three to one.
  • Senior goalkeeper Anna Buhigas made three saves in the win, giving her 45 on the season.

UP NEXT: The Lady Bisons next match will take place on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Alabama State.
