KENNESAW, Ga. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team opened ASUN road play with a win as the Lady Bisons (7-3-1) defeated Kennesaw State (5-5-1) 3-2 at Fifth Third Bank Stadium.
Kennesaw State struck early as senior Cassidy Kemp slotted in a goal off of an assist from fellow senior Kim Fincher in the 11th minute.
“Our first half performance was very flat and riddled with mistakes," Lipscomb women's soccer coach Kevin O'Brien said.
“Thankfully the players answered the call to action at halftime and competed at a higher level the second period."
Lipscomb struck back quickly as sophomore Maycie McKay scored less than four minutes later. Junior Jade Abarca set up McKay for the goal, her first of the seaon.
“Maycie McKay has had a great season so far, and I’m glad she’s coming into her goal scoring form again," O'Brien said. "It's the perfect time.”
Fincher closed the first half with another goal for the Owls to give Kennesaw a 2-1 lead in the 40th minute.
Sophomore Brooke Brenner equalized the game up once again for the Lady Bisons as she notched a goal in the 58th minute. The goal was her second of the season.
McKay placed the game-winner into the back of the net with just 14 minutes to play in the match. It was her second goal of both the game and the season.
“I was very impressed by their team and am glad they will be out travel partner for this 2016 season," O'Brien said.
Lipscomb senior goalkeeper Anna Buhigas notched seven saves in the win, pushing her total to 70 on the season.
"I thought KSU created some great chances tonight and could have had another goal or two if it were not for the fantastic goalkeeping of Anna Buhigas," O'Brien said.
