Women's soccer set for showdown with USC Upstate

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb (9-4-2, 3-1-1) women’s soccer team will be taking on another ASUN foe over the weekend as USC Upstate is set to visit Nashville on Saturday.

The Lady Bisons will take on the Spartans at 7 p.m. on Saturday night as the regular season winds down.

The Purple and Gold head into the weekend with the conference standings up for grabs after losing to currently top-ranked Stetson and drawing with previously top-ranked FGCU.

Scouting the Spartans:

  • USC Upstate heads into the matchup with a 0-12-3 record, including 0-4-1 in ASUN play. The Hatters have lost their previous outing both against North Florida.
  • Freshman Delaney Bussey has paced the team with a team-high three points thanks to one goal and one assist.
  • The Spartans have had a balanced attack with five players recording a goal and four earning as assist.
  • Junior goalkeeper Brooke Bailey has notched a conference-leading 107 saves and posted two shutouts.

Quick Hits:

  • The Lady Bisons have faced Upstate nine times and hold a 6-3 series lead, including the last three victories.  
  • Senior goalkeeper Anna Buhigas snatched up her fourth career ASUN Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for her performance in the team’s two opening week victories. She was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, a first in the history of the program. She is now up to four shutouts and 83 saves on the year.
  • Freshman Olivia Doak was named the ASUN Player of the Week in her first week of action for the Lady Bisons. She scored all three of the team’s goals during the week: two against Vanderbilt and one against Belmont. She now has totaled six goals to lead the team. She also leads the team in total points with 14 and has notched two assists.
  • Sophomore Maycie McKay and junior Natalie DuBoise are tied for the team lead with four assists. McKay has also gained two goals for eight total points, while DuBoise has slotted home four goals for 12 total points.
  • McKay leads Doak in total shots 30-29, while Doak has the advantage in shots on goal at 17-16.
