NASHVILLE – Coming off back-to-back seasons featuring a program-best 12 wins as well as a pair of ASUN Championship appearances, the Lipscomb women’s soccer team is set to take on another tough slate of opponents in the 2017 season.
The Lady Bisons will be taking on opponents from a wide variety of conferences across the Division I landscape, including: the SEC, OVC, Sun Belt, Conference USA, SoCon and SWAC.
"I am very excited that we'll be playing another strong schedule in 2017,” Lipscomb Women’s Soccer head coach Kevin O’Brien said. “It's extremely fun for our players, our fans, and our coaches to compete against quality opponents week in and week out.”
The Purple and Gold have scheduled a quartet of Southeastern Conference opponents. Lipscomb’s first road game of the season will be against Auburn, one of the nation’s top 10 teams in 2016, on Aug. 20. The Lady Bisons will then take on Georgia at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex on Sept. 1 before travelling to Vanderbilt and Kentucky on Sept. 10 and 15.
All four of those squads finished in the RPI top-100 at the end of the 2016 season, along with the ASUN Champions Florida Gulf Coast who Lipscomb will visit on Sept. 29.
"For me it's a simple philosophy: play strong teams in the non-conference portion of our schedule so that we are fully prepared to compete at a high level come conference time,” O’Brien said.
"Good opponents will exploit deficiencies in our team. Those areas will subsequently be trained and improved throughout the season so that we are playing our best soccer in November.”
Lipscomb will kick off the regular season against Western Kentucky at home on Aug. 18, and will begin conference play at NJIT on Sept. 23.
The Lady Bisons’ first home ASUN matchup will take place against North Florida on Oct. 6, and the regular season will close at home against Kennesaw State on Oct. 22.
