LakePoint, Ga. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team landed three players on the ASUN Preseason All-Conference team, including Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Niamh Rawlins, as announced by the league offices on Monday.
Rawlins, a senior defender, is the reigning ASUN Defensive Player of the Year after a stellar performance anchoring a stout Lipscomb defense in 2016. She also earned spots on the All-Conference First Team and the ASUN All-Tournament team last season.
This is the second straight season Rawlins has been voted the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
Sophomores Olivia Doak and Leah Cernicky were voted onto the team as each are expected to build upon the top-notch freshmen seasons they turned in last year.
Doak, a forward, was named the ASUN Freshman of the Year and earned a First-Team All-Conference spot as she tied for the team lead with seven goals in 2016.
Both Doak and Cernicky were voted onto the All-Freshman team after becoming full-time starters in their first season in the Purple and Gold.
The Lady Bisons were picked to finish second overall in the conference. They received 57 votes in the Coaches Poll, placing them just four votes behind FGCU in first. The Eagles tallied five first-place votes, while Lipscomb nabbed two. Stetson received the other first-place vote.
Lipscomb will be hitting the field again on Friday for their second and final preseason game at Boulevard rival Belmont’s home pitch before opening up the regular season at home against Western Kentucky on August 18.
