Scouting the Hilltoppers and the Tigers:

  • Western Kentucky went 0-2 during their preseason matchups, losing at Saint Louis 4-0 and at Murray State 2-0.
  • Sophomore Chandler Backes is the returning leading scorer for the Hilltoppers. She led WKU with 10 goals, one assist, and 21 points last season.
  • Auburn won both of their preseason games, taking out Georgia 3-2 and Samford 2-0.
  • Senior Kristen Dodson returns for the Tigers after leading the team in both goals (13) and assists (12) in 2016 scoring a school-record 38 total points.

 Quick Hits:

  • Lipscomb heads into the matchup having gone undefeated during the preseason. They took down ETSU 3-1 at home and blanked Battle of the Boulevard rival Belmont 2-0 on the road. Senior Ellen Lundy scored three of the five goals for the Bisons in the two matches.
  • The Bisons are 0-5 in the series history against the Hilltoppers, with the last matchup being a 2-0 loss in 2014. Lipscomb has never faced Auburn.
  • The Purple and Gold earned their first victory against an SEC school in program history last season with a 2-0 win over Vanderbilt at home. They followed that performance with a 1-0 win at Mississippi State, moving their lifetime record to 2-6-1 against SEC opponents.
  • Three Bisons landed on the ASUN Preseason All-Conference team, with senior Niamh Rawlins being named Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. She was joined by sophomores Olivia Doak and Leah Cernicky on the squad.
