Women's soccer announces tough slate of opponents for 2018

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team and head coach Kevin O’Brien have announced the 2018 schedule for the defending ASUN regular champions.

The Lady Bisons, who are coming off of three consecutive ASUN Championship Final appearances, have another tough slate of opponents in store for the fall.

“Our strength of schedule is solid from top to bottom,” O’Brien said. “We do not have one match that’s going to be easy. We get to test ourselves against a talented group of opponents.”

The schedule features matches against opponents from the ACC, SEC, C-USA, AAC, MAC, OVC, Horizon, and the SoCon, as well ASUN foes both new and familiar.

“We are super excited about the 2018 schedule,” O’Brien said. “We have challenged ourselves yet again and will really need to come together as a team to have a successful campaign.

“I am looking forward to seeing new leaders lead, young players learn and grow, and ultimately a team unified in purpose.”

The Lady Bisons will be seeing a substantial amount of turnover from last season’s ASUN regular season-winning starting lineup, so the Purple and Gold will have a new look in 2018.

“We’ve got a young team that’s loaded with talent, but that lacks experience,” O’Brien said. “It’s going to be fun to see how the competition within the squad plays out in preseason.”

Lipscomb will open the regular season on Aug. 17 at Battle of the Boulevard rival Belmont before taking on Tennessee Tech in the home opener on Aug. 19 at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

The SEC’s Kentucky will be visiting Nashville on Sept. 16 for a 6 p.m. showdown.

The Lady Bisons will open up conference play Sept. 21 against NJIT. Lipscomb will host each of the two new ASUN members: Liberty on Oct. 7 and North Alabama on Oct. 19.

The Purple and Gold will close out the regular season on Oct. 21 at Kennesaw State.
